Gee Scores Hampshire Classic Win

By Brian Liskai
liskai2x@roadrunner.com

WAYNESFIELD, Ohio – Leduc, Alberta, Canada’s Skylar Gee had never competed at Waynesfield Raceway Park. But, he made his first appearance a good one, taking the lead on lap 34 and driving away to earn the $5,630 pay day for the 2nd Annual Bob Hampshire Classic.

The event, honoring the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame sprint car owner and mechanic, was the final race of 2019 for the FAST 410 Sprint Series. Cole Duncan, with his win the week prior, earned the series’ championship.

The one-third mile high banked track lived up to its reputation as the 50-lap FAST feature saw several lead changes. Cap Henry led the first eight circuits with NASCAR Xfinity Star Christopher Bell taking over to lead laps 9-16 only to have Henry regain the top spot for a lap with Bell using heavy lapped traffic to move back into the lead on lap 18. Bell seemed to have the race in control when he spun in turn four while maneuvering through lapped traffic, falling back to 11th and handing the lead back to Henry. Gee, who had hung around the top five throughout the race, hunted down Henry and drove around him on lap 34. A caution with eight laps to go gave Henry one final shot, but Gee hit his marks perfectly and drove to the win.

“I struggled pretty hard the first half of the race. I started watching Christopher and then I seen DJ (Foos) poking his nose in there and it started to rubber up there a little and I started creeping and creeping and pretty soon we were pretty good and I could start cheating the wing forward. I got going pretty good in one and two and I had a good race with Cap….he raced me hard and clean. It was a lot of fun. I’ve never won a 50 lap race before so that’s pretty cool. Hats off to Rob and Gary for working their asses off all night and all the fans for sticking out this cold,” said Gee beside his Bluvos/Carlan Services/Pat Beck Motorsports/Strongs Crane Sales and Repair backed machine.

+14 move in the Main sets the stage for a great start to 2018

Skylar turns 19 and gets Hard Charger Award on Night One

RA.   MESQUITE, Texas (March 16, 2018).  Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too?  Skylar Gee turns 19 today and puts in one of his most impressive runs during Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series on opening night.  Gee struggled slightly in his heat race with a 6th pace finish, which set him in the B Feature.  Starting 8th in the Heat and moving up two places helped with valuable passing points to place high in the B main.

Skylar started in the fourth position in the B Main and moved himself up to finish second to transfer into the 25 lap main event.

Gee wanted to do some good on his birthday night, with his Mom and Dad and some supporters all helping him in this first race of the 2018 season.  He did not disappoint.  Gee started the feature back on the outside of the third last row of the 22 car field, in the 18th position.  After 25 hard-charging laps, Skylar moved up 14 positions to finish just off the podium in an impressive 4th spot.

Skylar Gee captures the CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night of the night award for his efforts with a +14 position move up in the Main.  Gee also puts himself 4th in points for the 2018 Championship.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway starts off the 2018 season

Skylar Gee Ready for Lucas Oil ASCS Opener

Bryan Hulbert – LEDUC, Alberta, Can. (March 14, 2018) Readying for his Sophomore season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Sawblade.com, Canada’s Skylar Gee begins his season this Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.

“I’m excited to get going again. We’re starting the year with a new team and crew chief, so it’s going to be different having steady help each weekend where I can focus more on driving the car,” commented Gee who has joined with Bryan Sundby and BDS Motorsports.

Asked about joining with BDS Motorsports, Skylar said, “Bryan and I talked a lot last year and he helped me on weekends that my Dad had to go home and we worked well together. When we got to PRI this past December, he ran the idea of joining the BDS team and I jumped on it. I knew at the time I wanted to run the ASCS Tour again, and this just fit what we both want to do.”

Skylar Gee 2017 ASCS Lucas Oil Sprint Car Dirt Series Rookie of the Year

LEDUC, Alb.  (November 14, 2017)  What a year it has been for Skylar Gee and team. It was a major step for them to make the jump from regional racing to the National Tour.

“We are happy to announce that we will return to the ASCS National Tour for the 2018 season. I cannot thank everyone enough who has helped us along the road this season”, announced Gee.

Carlan Services, Pat Beck Motorsports, Gee and Gee Racing, Shark Racing Engines, Strongs Crane Service, Impact Coatings, Napa Auto Parts (Fox Creek AB) Clark Construction, Global Power Services, Shane Liebig, Hoosier Racing Tire, Ace Manufacturing, Driven Racing Oil, Wings Unlimited, Camp Vinyl, Penske Racing Shocks, Dale Richards, Steve and Conny Reeves, The Rilat Family, Brian and Dave Sundby, Jimmy Carr, Ken Woodruff, Scotty Evans and Lisa Davies.

As the young Gee gets set to make a run for the ASCS National Tour Championship for 2018, the 18 year old has even bigger plans for the near future.  The ultimate goal of running the World of Outlaws tour like his father, Tim Gee, did back in the 1980’s is still his biggest priority.  Gee knows that it will take a big commitment financially and mentally to get to the big show before he turns 21, but the dream is alive and well.

Mesilla Valley Transportation saved the weekend

Mesilla Valley Transportation Delivers Skylar Gee To Cocopah Speedway

LEDUC, Alb. (November 9, 2017) When Skylar Gee set out in pursuit of the 2017 ASCS Brodix National Rookie of the Year, his number one goal was to not miss a race. That goal was nearly dashed with the finish line in sight as issues with the team’s truck had them stranded in Dallas, Texas.

Frantically looking for a truck, a call to Royal Jones with Mesilla Valley Transportation was all it took to deliver the No. 99 to the 2017 finale for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz.

“Royal saved the weekend for us for sure. We wanted to make the full schedule, and thanks to him, we get to accomplish that,” commented Gee.

Making it just in time to check out Wednesday’s Fan Fest, the team took the opportunity to test the car during Wednesday’s practice session, despite running on three hours of sleep, “We’re tired, but we made some laps tonight and the car felt really good so hopefully we can carry some speed into the weekend.”

Skylar’s second venture to the Arizona oval, the driver of the Carlan Services No. 99 looks to improve over his last visit during the 2015 Winter Heat.

“I feel a lot better coming into this event. We got really beat down during Winter Heat, but this time, I feel like I’m racing in class. Overall, I’m really happy with the car and the engines, so we’ll see what we can do.”

Special thanks to Sammy Swindell for jumping in and offering his expertise.

Skylar Gee Captures Top 10 In Short Track Nationals Debut

LEDUC, Alb. (October 18, 2017) Skylar Gee’s first trip to the COMP Cams ASCS Mid-South Short Track Nationals was a successful one with the Carlan Services No. 99 rolling to a 10th place finish in Saturday’s $15,000 to win feature event.

“It was a great weekend for us. We unloaded and were fast right out of the gate so it definitely showed us we are getting better,” said Gee who is the leading Rookie with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Coming out of Thursday’s opener with a 14th place in the 25-lap preliminary feature, Gee was 12th overall in event points. That brought running Friday into question, with the team deciding to go ahead and draw in. The decision was pivotal to the weekend’s success.

“We figured we’d a least try and run Friday. Whether we made the show or not, we wanted to learn about the track a little bit more, and ended up we ran way better than we did Thursday and jumped from 12th in points to fourth, so that really helped.”

Of the improved performance, Skylar gave special thanks to Sammy Swindell for jumping in and offering his expertise.

Still having to run in a Showdown Qualifier on Saturday, the 10 lap affair was worth double points with Gee capitalizing with a run from sixth to fourth to secure the final transfer into Saturday’s big dance.

“It was such a relief,” commented Gee, who made the show with an engine assembled by his father. “I’ve had to run a lot of B-Mains this year in order to make the show, and it helped us to where we weren’t having to scramble. I just felt like we were able to be more focused on what we needed to do in the feature.”

Following I-80 Speedway Fall Brawl

Skylar Gee Is Colorado Bound

LEDUC, Alb. (October 6, 2017) Continuing to pick up speed through his rookie season with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Skylar Gee hopes to keep that momentum rolling as he makes his first visit to the El Paso County Raceway on Friday, October 6 and Saturday, October 7,

“The place looks pretty neat. Looking at pictures and videos, I’m excited to get there and see what we can do. More than that, we’re ready to do some short track racing,” said Skylar who leads the Brodix ASCS National Rookie of the Year standings.

Rolling out of the Fall Brawl at I-80 Speedway, Gee again was able to race his way into the A-Feature, where he was able to advance from 17th to 12th, despite the track narrowing throughout the event.

“I made a few mistakes the first few laps, and that cost me, but as we went on I was able to pick those spots up and start really moving through the field. I feel I would have probably finished top-ten if I hadn’t missed it at the start, but overall it was a good run.”
